Samsung MV800 Camera
Samsung MV800 ($ 279.99 list) is a compact camera that has been designed around a different feature: flip-out LCD screen. Slim shooter possibly the perfect camera to capture the long-arm self-portrait that has always found a home as Facebook profile pictures. Samsung is not the first foray into this type of camera. The Dual View TL225 ($ 349.99, 4 stars), has a front-facing LCD and good enough to earn our Editors' Choice award. Unfortunately, the MV800 does not live up to its predecessor's pedigree. Tilting LCD not a bad thing-I love that feature on the Sony Alpha NEX-5N ($ 699.99, 4.5 stars). The problem is that the MV800 only manage photos with so-so sharpness and does not perform well in low light. Therefore, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS ($ 259.99, 4 stars) remains our Editors' Choice for mid-range compacts, although it lacks some bells and whistles found on the MV800.

Design and Features

MV800 is a lightweight and slim camera, which can easily slide into your shirt pocket. It measures just 2.2 by 3.6 by 0.7 inches (HWD) and weighs approximately 4.3 ounces. It's actually smaller and lighter than the Canon ELPH 310 HS, which measures 2.2 by 3.8 by 0.9 inches and weighs 4.9 ounces. Samsung advertises the camera as a 16-megapixel models, but by default the camera only captures 12-megapixel photos. The sensor is 4:3 aspect ratio, but out of the box configured camera to shoot pictures 16:09. To get the full resolution, you must adjust the settings to capture the images 04:03.

5x zoom lens covering 26-130mm (35mm equivalent) field of view. This is a pretty good zoom range for the camera, especially at the short end, as a lens wider than normal is ideal for drawing closer. It is not as wide as the length of 21mm-equivalent lens focus is found in Casio Tryx ($ 249.99, 3.5 stars), another camera built around the concept of self-image.

There are several keys to talk about, behind the camera is dominated by 3-inch LCD. The screen itself is bright and clear, so you will not have difficulty using outdoors on a sunny day. A Power button, shutter release and zoom rocker is located at the top, and the Home button and the Play Picture located at the rear, the right of the LCD. When you flip up the screen, the shutter release is revealed on the back of the camera, allowing you to fire a shot when the lens and the LCD is facing you. If you want to exercise any control over the camera manually, you must do so via the touch screen.

Fortunately, this touch interface is responsive. Although it does not support multi-touch input, you can swipe to scroll through images. Good camera for use with the menu system. Pressing the Home screen displays an icon-based menu that provides access to all camera shooting mode. Standard mode is there-Auto, Program, Movie, and Scene-as well as some that you will not find on any camera, including capturing 3D images, panoramas, and Self shot mode. Shot themselves showed flattering self-portrait of the model in the corner, so you'll be able to mimic one of the 11 poses to make a similar shot. Another special shooting mode allows you to create the effect of picture-in-picture, add artistic frames to your photos, or apply the funhouse mirror distortion to the face.

Performance and Conclusion

Camera is not particularly fast, MV800 takes about 2.3 seconds to get started and take the shot, requires you to wait a full 1.6 seconds between pictures, and recorded a 0.4 second shutter lag. Its performance is equivalent to the Panasonic Lumix DHC-FH27 ($ 229.99, 2.5 stars). That point-and-shoot starts in 2 seconds, requiring 2.3 seconds to recycle between shots, and recorded 0.4 second shutter lag.

I use Imatest software suite to measure the sharpness and noise in the images produced by the MV800. Cameras record the center-weighted sharpness score 1475 lines per picture height, also shy of the 1,800 lines that show a sharp image. Our Editors' Choice, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS, did better on tests. It can capture the 1857 line, which is significantly sharper.

Equally lacking in low-light performance, the MV800 is only able to keep the noise figure below 1.5 percent through ISO 200, the setting is really only good for outdoor use or a brightly lit interior. When an image is made up of more than 1.5 percent of the vote, becoming rough. Another camera touch screen, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS fared much better, snapping pictures clean through ISO 800.

Video taken in 720p30 format. The quality is there to write home about, the details are not as sharp as they could and the colors are a bit flat. You can zoom while recording, but the camera has a hard time reacquiring focus on doing so, leaving you with out-of-focus footage. MV800 can be connected directly to your HDTV thanks to the micro HDMI port, and you get a standard micro USB port for PC connectivity. The camera uses microSD memory for recording, which can be a bit more expensive, and easier for less-than, a standard SD card larger.
Camera Digital

Although the filter and managed to pack a lot of gimmicks into its slim body, MV800 fails in its ability to capture sharp images and great suffering in low light. While the flip-out screen is a nice feature, the camera is connected to the disappointing, especially when you consider the price. For $ 20 less, you can select our Editors' Choice, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS is capable of. You will not get the LCD flips, but you will get an 8x zoom lens and a top-notch speed and performance. If the touch screen is a necessity, the ELPH 500 HS makes a lot of sense, because it is a better player, and a price of only $ 20 higher than the MV800. LCD is not going to flip to your face, so you just have to use guess some when you try to catch your own cup.

pro
Flip-out LCD. Compact and lightweight. Responsive touch screen. The scene modes.
cons
Photo software. Using a microSD memory. Poor low light performance.
bottom Line
Samsung MV800 compact camera has a flip-out screen that makes it fun to take self-portraits easy, but it falls short in terms of image quality and low light performance.
