Android is a Linux-based operating system for mobile phones such as smart phones and tablet computers. Android provides an open platform for developers to create their own applications for use by a variety of mobile devices. Initially, Google Inc. buy Android Inc., newcomers who make software for mobile phones. Then to develop Android, formed the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 34 companies for hardware, software, and telecommunications, including Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, T-Mobile, and Nvidia.

At the inaugural release of Android, 5 November 2007, with the Android Open Handset Alliance said it supported the development of open standards on mobile devices. On the other hand, Google released the Android code under the Apache license, a license is open standard software and mobile devices.
In this world there are two types of distributors operating system Android. The first fully supported by Google or Google Mail Services (GMS) and the second is a completely free distribution without the direct support of Google's otherwise known as the Open Handset Distribution (OHD).

History

 Cooperation with Android Inc.

On July 2000, Google Inc. in cooperation with Android., A company located in Palo Alto, California United States. The founders of Android Inc.. working at Google, including Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White. At that time many consider the functions of Android Inc.. just as the software on mobile phones. Since then rumors that Google was about to enter the mobile phone market. In the Google company, Rubin led the team in charge of developing a program of mobile devices supported by Linux kernel. This shows an indication that Google is preparing for a competition in the mobile phone market.

2007-2008: the initial product

Around September 2007 a study reported that Google filed a patent application of a cell phone (Google finally introduced the Nexus One, one of the GSM smart phone that uses Android operating system. This mobile phone manufactured by HTC Corporation and is available on the market on January 5, 2010) .
On December 9, 2008, announced the new members who joined in the work program Android ARM Holdings, Atheros Communications, manufactured by Asustek Computer Inc., Garmin Ltd., Softbank, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba Corp. and Vodafone Group Plc. As the formation of the Open Handset Alliance, OHA announced their first product, Android, mobile devices (mobile) which is a modified Linux kernel 2.6. Since Android release has been carried out various reforms in the form of bug fixes and new feature additions.

3. Motorola Droid

DROID is difficult to see without looking at a company that brings devices to life. Motorola: for years the name has been synonymous with ... well, disappointment. While supporting the industry-made section with the RAZR phone, the days that followed have not been particularly useful or interesting. During the past year, we have seen Motorola beat a path back to the mainstream through a series of intelligent drama: first embrace Android as a platform, then peel of the weight of Windows Mobile and finally bring some (unwanted and high profile) devices to market.

By DROID, the company has made perhaps the most interesting pieces of technology and exciting yet. Forging alliances with both Verizon and Google, Motorola has come up with strong reasons both for calculating phonemaker down, but certainly not out, while the other two giants have finally found a device that seems appropriate for the position against the iPhone. So we must ask these questions: is this phone that will catapult Android into the mainstream? Is a device that will pull Motorola back from the brink? And - most importantly - does Google lynchpin and Verizon have been necessary to challenge the leader in mindshare in the smartphone market? After putting the device through its paces, we think we can give you the answer you're looking for - so read on to find out!
Motorola DROID review the hand-

Hardware

DROID is a weird and wonderful devices. Looking at the hardware from a purely philosophical standpoint, the ID of the phone seems staunchly defiant. Instead of taking cues (and rows) of the current competitors in the smartphone space, the DROID is all hard edges and slope angle. Construction is a mixture of plastic and metal, and this phone has a weight, a solid price for it. Couple that with the weight of soft touch materials and gold highlights, and the effect is somewhere halfway between the Vertu and the European version of the Hero - and it's a good mix.

Telephone base structure consisting of two main parts, a large, glass display at the top, and slightly longer keyboard / mainboard lower half. Above, 3.7 inch screen dominates, almost filling the space edge-to-edge, although there are four capacitive button at the bottom of the screen: back, menu, home, and search (which may be difficult for people who come from other Android devices, because they have thrown in the blender button sequence). The top slide smoothly upward to open the QWERTY keyboard, although unlike other models of this kind, does not automatically snap into place, but require less energy to move up, and then click once firmly settled. Keyboard is a business (even though most of the flush) wide, with a minimal amount of spacing between keys. The right of the QWERTY row of four is 5-way rocker - a strange deviation from the left side of the CLIQ's control - and the bottom piece has a strip that juts out from the device with a small mic hole (closed or open). It's almost like a version of the Motorola HTC chin ... although somewhat angry. On top of the phone is a 3.5mm headphone jack and the power / sleep; along the right edge is a volume rocker and camera button on the end opposite; the left side of the house MicroUSB port, behind a 5 megapixel camera (and flash) is expressed, along with the strip, a thin gold, crosshatch that hide the speaker's DROID.

Thickness of the DROID is striking, coming in at just a hair (13.7mm vs 12.33mm) thicker than the iPhone 3G. The body itself is actually narrower than the iPhone. While thinness is important (although usually not a deal breaker for us), the fact that the phone packs a larger screen resolution, and higher physical keyboard in such a small frame is important.

Overall, Motorola has been drawn from what seems unimaginable to them just 12 months ago, they have created a device that truly lustworthy, even next to the best efforts of Apple, HTC, and Palm.

Internal

DROID defeat in a Arm Cortex A8 CPU (a 600MHz, 550MHz OMAP3430 chip downclocked for), 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. If the CPU that sounds familiar, it should be - is similar chip inside the iPhone 3G and Palm Pre. If you're wondering about performance, you can breathe ... types. Yes, there is a bump in speed when switching applications on a rolling, the phone through the list, and generally get basic tasks done. We did notice, however, that paging through homescreens on the DROID actually seemed somewhat stuttery; odd, considering that this phone is certainly better equipped than most Android devices to handle pixel pushing. Pulling down the window shade notification area also seemed less than optimal. We do not know whether this was due to the boost the screen resolution, or just word games software, but a bit disappointing - especially considering that the rest of the phone's performance look extra sharp for us. As an aside, the test is not scientific at all of playing a 3D game (Mystique, in case you're wondering) appears to be much more subtle rendering the DROID compared with other, older Android-based phones we've used.

Throughout our testing, we are consistently impressed with the tightness and speed of navigation on the phone. DROID makes Android feel modern way of 3G iPhone and Palm Pre are - like a machine designed for the pace of life that Twitter is getting more and less USPS.

Display

As already mentioned, the screen on the DROID is a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen - full screen with WVGA resolution clocking in at a beautiful 480 x 854. We found the response on the DROID to be equal (if not better) than most contemporary of Android, gestures and registered film with little or no lag. What can be associated with the Moto-screen technology, Android 2.0 fixes, or just a fast CPU on the DROID is anyone's guess, but we certainly will not drop the phone for it. Another perk to have that big screen is to see how their Web pages are meant to be seen (or at least closer), and browsing on the DROID is a solid experience. Those extra pixels definitely come in handy when you're looking at something graphically intensive or long-winded ... such as Engadget.

As you may have heard (or guessed), there is no multitouch on this device. That's obviously a problem with Android 2.0 and choices that Google's decision about the user interface - we're pretty sure there's nothing technically hold DROID from utilizing multitouch input, and we would not be surprised to see some tweaks ROM hit the information superhighway with onboard functions. Regardless, resolution, material, and the DROID screen clarity make it an absolute pleasure to keep your eyes. Motorola to get a bump in resolution, and we can only hope others following suit.

Note: Android 2.0 does not support multitouch events, but the function is not applicable here.

Keyboard

A physical keyboard can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how good (or bad) that do. In the case of Android devices, QWERTY has definitely been hit or miss. We think the closest thing to comparison with DROID version will be the G1, both have shallow, clicky keys, and they force you into the right hand slightly awkward position. On the G1, it's because of the placement of the "chin," and the DROID, it's all up to the five-way rocker living next to the board itself. We are pleased to report that after a brief adjustment period, typing on the DROID is a reasonable experience. It's not slick or comfortable as the week, a good portrait-oriented or (better yet) Bold layout, though bests CLIQ, and holds its own against competitors such as landscape Moment.

Visually, the keyboard is much easier to read (and more aesthetically pleasing) than other QWERTY phones too, although sometimes it can feel a bit cramped keys. In addition, we have a big problem with auto-dimming on the DROID. If we leave the screen brightness in automatic mode, constant on / off dimming keyboard unbearable, eventually we should just switch off auto dim at all. We also have a problem with the keyboard does not light at all in some cases, we need to close and open the pad again. No big deal, but annoying when you try to quickly tap out a message. Indeed, we missed two stages CLIQ's keyboard backlighting that only allows the second light when ALT is pressed, but it's a luxury we can live without.

As you would expect, Android 2.0 includes an onscreen keyboard as well, but there does not seem to be much improvement in this area. As a backup keyboard for fast SMS and the like, managed, although we eventually have to replace it with the Better Keyboard application - which we think is more useful and snappier. Compared to the iPhone keyboard (really high bar for virtual keys) Android continues to feel like second place. However, you will not go away - DROID a physical keyboard is solid, but it will take some getting used to for most people.

Camera

Google has made some significant changes to the camera application on Android 2.0 (including control over white balance, focal length, flash settings, and effects), and Motorola have been smart DROID comes with 5 megapixel camera plus flash LED. Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Well, not quite.

No, no, no. Yes! We tried to photograph an hour in broad daylight.

While the camera certainly seems capable of taking photos look great, getting everything to play well is not as easy as it should. First, the camera is very slow to focus and take pictures - and when that happens, the result is unpredictable. Surprisingly, the lens seems to be taking a pretty sharp macro photos (it's even a setting in the camera app), but struggled to get adjusted to close subjects, even in broad daylight. Sometimes we get lucky and turn a decent pic, but the process was frustrating. Furthermore, Google has added a new regulation 2.0 is contained in a hard to get to the menu and counterintuitive that sits to the left of your display area. Trying to make changes quickly is a hassle. If this is the best engineers at Google can do it, they need to outsource this work.
Motorola DROID test camera shots

Video, on the other hand, is somewhat of a pleasant surprise. DROID is capable of shooting at a resolution of 720 x 480, and in our tests, produced watchable - if not completely shake free - video. This phone is definitely fares better in this department compared to stills, and we could easily see using DROID as a stand-in for flip cam. You can see a little action in the video below (with a surprise cameo from other travelers! 'S Nic).

Speaker / earpiece

The voice on the DROID is second to none - absolutely. In fact, this is one of the best sound we've ever used. Whether it's audio through the earpiece (but not distorted) hard, or speakerphone calls - even music - the sound output device is Motorola's crystal clear. Now, obviously something to do with Verizon reception in our voice-dialing, but the possibility of Moto put some thought into the aural aspect of the phone. There's really not much to say except that we are more than happy with the audio fidelity of the DROID, and we can only hope that the future phone makers (ahem, Apple) look to this device as a high water mark in this department.

Software

In addition to the introduction of the phone itself, obviously 2.0 is a major update to Android. Based on the hype surrounding the launch and the motto, we will say it's reasonable to assume that Google wants as many eyes on the achievement possible. They must get it by DROID - but is it worth all the fuss?

The first thing you should know is that Android 2.0 does not differ dramatically from the 1.5 or 1.6, save for some of the key features and tweaks that have a significant impact. In accordance with the form, Google has not gone to a visual or decorative wild talent for a jaw dropping a few, most of these changes on function and usability.

One of the first major changes Google has made the support for multiple Gmail accounts or Exchange, and a new universal inbox that allows you to see your electronic correspondence in one view. For BlackBerry users, the concept is old hat, but for most people with multiple accounts, it must feel like manna from heaven. We will be a little more spark about feature allows you to see if both Gmail and POP / IMAP / Exchange account in a single field. Instead, you can see your Gmail account separately (not in a single stream, but in one place), and your other accounts can be mixed in the view "Combined Inbox". Not exactly a perfect implementation for us with both Exchange and Google accounts, but it's definitely light years beyond what the solution earlier version of Android that offer. Another small niggle: remove email now take you to the next email in your inbox rather than hit you back to the email list, as it did in 1.5 and 1.6. We prefer the old functionality, though we imagine some people would prefer a new well.

We're happy to keep some of our accounts on the phone, but we ran into a strange and annoying problem when trying to delete one of them. We use a DROID with two active Gmail account, but when we try to remove the second one we will be adding (note: not the account that we use for our contacts or calendar) of the device tells us that we need to factory reset the phone because the account is "required" to particular application. Try as we might, we could not find a way around this problem, and we ended up not reset the device. Strange behavior to say the least, especially since it is an account, almost no secondary use - not for everyday use address bound to the service.

As you may have heard, Facebook now account integration is built into 2.0, and there must be more to come, because Google has created a "sync adapter" that allows third parties to plug into the contacts and calendar from your cell phone. Fortunately, Google has to know that you probably do not want your Facebook contacts in your address book, and gives you the option to turn off syncing contacts (as well as Exchange and Gmail accounts). You are also given the option to sync contacts, but need a certain set of display in your contact list, this variation is indicated by the integration of Facebook, because it combines duplicate names and draw a picture attached, but do not mess up your Gmail contacts with additional names. Beyond that, the couple did not go very deep, even though we said that Facebook had a hand in the OS version as well. Really, you get your homescreen widget for the auto-update, and that the integration of contact if you really want it. This is clearly just the tip of the iceberg for this type of ... eh, synergy, and we hope to see many people taking advantage of the features (hello, Twitter). Regardless, it's a step forward that clear thinking will negate the need for some functions built into Blur, and make the DROID (and other mobile 2.0) to the Pre and Pixi competitive when it comes to social networking integration.

Speaking of contacts, Google has made some big changes to how contacts are handled wisely (and used) in Android 2.0, especially adding a "Quick Contact" menu to your contact list. Quick contact function allows you to suppress a person's name and get a context menu to jump to the various ways you can reach, if you're friends with someone on Facebook, you will have the option to message them there, along with a choice of SMS, telephone, and email. This brilliant little touches that make a person a quick ping easy. Android 2.0 also increases the SMS and MMS experience by giving you the option to search for your messages, and also allows you to set a limit on how many SMS to save before you start removing the old thread. This is not groundbreaking, but a good choice to have (finally).
