Build and Design

The design of the Samsung N150 is, in a word, "average" for a modern netbook. Combined matte black exterior with red trim around the edges Burgandy color gives the appearance of a simple consumer-oriented netbook with a touch of business class. Plastic chassis used in the construction of high enough quality to avoid creaking sound when you press a netbook, but the plastic is thin enough that you feel that stretch netbook under pressure of your finger.

Close the screen to provide the same level of protection compared to the plastic around the netbook. If you press firmly on the back of the screen you'll start to see distortion on the screen, but the lid is strong enough to protect the screen while the N150 rattles in a briefcase or purse. N150 was relatively strong when the netbook is completely closed and the screen hinges provide enough resistance to make you feel like you're getting your money's worth. On the inside of the keyboard feels solid in the tray with very little flexibility or movement. Palmrest also holds up well, though if you have an adult-sized hands palms will hang on the front edge of the netbook and almost resting on your lap or desk surface depending on where you work.

Taking a look at the bottom of this reveals the Samsung Notebook N150 is one of the upgrade-friendly netbook at least take a look. Most netbooks have a large access panel on the bottom of the laptop or two smaller panels that allow you to remove the RAM and hard drive to upgrade the component itself. N150 features only a small panel on the RAM slot that allows you to upgrade the RAM. Access the hard drive and wireless card requires you to completely disassemble the netbook.
That being said, it's doubtful that most people buying this netbook from Verizon will upgrade any component ... even adding a 2GB stick of RAM is not possible for most of the N150 owners.

Ports and Features

The Samsung N150 has three USB 2.0 ports, VGA-out, headphone jack, microphone jack, SD card slot and Ethernet. Of course, if you buy this netbook from Verizon you also get a built-in Verizon WWAN card for broadband internet access anywhere Verizon's network has coverage.

Screen and Speakers

Views on the Samsung N150 feels like a bit of a step backwards in the netbook market. Most modern netbooks have switched to display panel that displays a resolution of 1366x768 notebook screens similar to the larger. Unfortunately, the screen on the N150 using the older style of 1024x600 LED-backlit panel. This means that many web pages may not display properly on the screen and even some Windows menu might not fit on the screen because the resolution is very low. In short, you need to be prepared to scroll horizontally or vertically. In addition, this screen does not support 720p playback (which requires a minimum screen resolution 1280x720) so you can forget about YouTube HD. That said, the CPU and integrated graphics having problems with HD content as well.

The panel itself is easy to read - at least to my eyes - and the text does not look that small compared to other mobile devices. If you can read small text on the phone, you should be able to see the screen without any problems. Viewing angles are average compared to other notebooks, the colors start to invert or damage when the screen is tilted about 15 degrees forward or backward. Horizontal viewing angle is much better and matte screens to prevent unwanted reflections.

Speaker Samsung N150 netbook small placed under the front edge palmrests, tilted towards your lap. On their desktop hard surface hard enough to fill a small room with sound as "bounce" audio from the table and move forward toward the user. If you use this netbook as a "laptop", then your audio will be muted because of the downward-firing speakers will be blocked by clothing. The sound quality is average or below average compared with other similarly sized netbook, with almost no bass and weak midrange.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The Samsung N150 features a traditional-style keyboard is cramped with keys. Most of the buttons are just a fraction smaller than the full-size notebook, but the function keys and arrow keys are painfully small to fit inside a 10-inch footprint. The keyboard is comfortable to type fast business email, update Facebook or make a purchase online is fast, but do not expect to type your autobiography without developing severe hand cramps. In other words, this keyboard is meant for short trips or light usage while browsing the web. If you intend to use this as your main system, you may want to consider buying an external keyboard for every time you plan to type for several hours.

Touchpad on the small N150. When I say small, I mean that I can almost cover the entire surface of the touchpad with your thumb turned sideways. The touchpad itself includes multi-finger gesture support that lets you scroll, pinch-zoom in and out, and rotate through the touchpad. Of course, if you have a large adult-sized hands will not be easy to fit two fingers on the touchpad and make a move at the same time. Matte black texture match the rest of the netbook touchpad surface and very good sensitivity with no adjustments necessary. Two touchpad buttons are located under a "rocker switch" single touchpad button with a small indent to separate the left and right. Press the button with a shallow "click" sound when used

Performance and Benchmark

There is really no point in even having the performance and the benchmark in the review of most netbooks. Almost all weak Atom-based netbook gives multi-tasking performance, application switching is slow, slow application launch (uless they improved with solid state drive) and weak video performance thanks to Intel integrated graphics. That said, most of the average consumer who is off to watch a video or multitasking with Microsoft Office applications think some of these netbooks offer "good enough" performance.

Indeed, if all you want to do is check email, browsing some websites, update social media like Facebook and Twitter, or type in a few pages of text into Microsoft Word and N150 will get a job. More importantly, the Verizon network allows you to do all that even when you're not near a Wi-Fi hotspot. If you buy the N150 from Verizon it will come pre-loaded with Verizon VZAccess Manager software that lets you connect to the web at the touch of a button.

The only "potential" problems with the use of Verizon's 3G service is not Wi-Fi is a potential signal loss when you work indoors. I can get download speeds of multiple Megabits per second (Mb / s) when used outside the Verizon network, but the room in which the signal was abstructed by the walls and ceiling of my usual download speed will drop to less than 0.25Mb / s. In contrast, the typical Wi-Fi connection in a coffee shop might give you the speed of 7.0Mb / s or faster. In short, Verizon lets you stay connected from anywhere, but you may want to use Wi-Fi when you have a chance.

Heat and Noise

Exterior heat output from Intel Atom N450 and GMA 3150 integrated graphics is quite minimal. . During normal use of the system to stay just above room temperature and is very comfortable to use for a long time. Temperature below are listed in degrees Fahrenheit:

The cooling fan living continuously, rotating at a lower speed when idle, and take the heat output increases. Fan noise is tolerable, but you might see in a quiet office environment or classroom.

Battery Life

Shares of the six-cell battery on the N150 is pretty standard for any modern netbook in our test with screen brightness reduced to 70%, Wi-Fi enable and refresh the Web page every 60 seconds, and Windows 7 on Samsung N150-balanced profile stayed for 6 hours and 28 minutes. This is what we expect to see from a modern netbook. That said, the battery will go down with a couple of hours if you use Verizon's wireless service to connect to the internet and you are actively loading a new web page on a regular basis.

Conclusion

Almost every tech journalist on the planet (including this one) is less than impressed with what can only be called a sub-par netbook. On the surface, it's the Samsung  Notebook N150. N150 provides a low-resolution screen, the speakers are weak, terrible touchpad is small, and weak performance even by netbook standards.
However, there is a reason that the majority of user reviews for Verizon Wireless Samsung N150 from the positive: Leisure. For $ 30 (or less depending on the current Verizon deal), you can buy a netbook and stay connected to the internet anywhere that you have access to the Verizon Wireless network. Combine with long battery life and is very easy to understand why many consumers are willing to live with low-resolution screen and a small netbook disorders.

Bottom line, this is a netbook that lets you stay connected anywhere with a relatively low cost (assuming you do not mind the monthly service fee). As long as you buy it with the understanding it and do not expect this to replace a desktop PC family, then you might be really happy.
